Remind me to stay out of my local BMW group's facebook page with anything regarding stance.

It just got compared to painting a 93 corolla purple and putting curb feelers and Mercedes badges on it. I guess stance is that bad to some people.

But in the mean time, here's some eye candy and good night.

As a BMW owner, I can honestly say that I kind of like "stance"

What I hate is the word "stance." It doesnt mean a goddamn thing.

I feel those are a bit too low for my liking. Those people seriously have a point, BMW's are performance machines, seeing them that low disappoints me.

Could be stanced and lifted, the stance is just how it sits. But it's generally understood it means low ridin

Yeah, some of us are like that. Not sure what it is. Maybe a chemical in the BMW manufacturing process? Anyway, I apologize on behalf of us.

Eh, I guess. But there's some imaginary distinction between lowered, slammed, and stanced and I've seen actual arguments about whether a car is slammed or stanced. It's dumb. People who are important and influential in the "stance" community, like Mike Burroughs and Jason Wipple, understand what stance actually is, but everyone else gets too caught up in connotation.

Either way, I'm a huge fan of low riders and "stanced" cars, even if I do think the designation is kind of stupid, and I defend them all the time. Ironically, BMW owners are the most polarized when it comes to "stance." A huge portion of the cars on Stanceworks and similar sites are BMW's, and yet the rest of BMW owners are the most extremely opposed.

all words are made up, all words have no meaning unless you give them meaning, when enough people think a word means something then it means that something.

That's how we got literally to mean figuratively and literally at the same time. Yay language!

I would disagree with that, its really the E30 kids and the E36 tards that love stance, the rest of us usually have enough common sense to realize stance is fucking stupid. Sometimes theirs some crossing over though. I've seen stanced e24's and e31's and stuff.

I see arguments on bimmerforums all the time over stance, it looks like it got so bad at one point that stance how has its own subforum to keep the two crowds separated.

Oh, you know what I mean. And "stanced" as either an adjective or a verb doesn't really have a meaning anyways. A lot of people use it as "I lowered my car, bolted on wider wheels, and added camber" but what it actually means, or would mean if it was a real word, is "I made the stance of my car more aggressive, or whatever other adjective." Bro trucks are "stanced," off-roaders are "stanced," hot rods are "stanced," low riders are "stanced," race cars are "stanced," and those trucks with the stupid Carolina Squat are "stanced."

I'm tired and a little buzzed so I doubt I'm explaining this well enough, but I just think the term "stanced" is stupid. Now, if you are talking about a car's stance, thats completely different and valid because all cars have a stance, and some stances are more aggressive or [enter adjective here] than others. But the term "stanced" itself is dumb. Stance is a real thing, stancing something is not.

I am fine with stance, I just don't like the people that talk about how it is a lifestyle and all that. Usually you build a car for the love of the car not the love of the lifestyle. . . plus some people do it to look cool to other people rather than personal satisfaction, I can't stand that!

The biggest problem I have with stance is those god damn camber angles. The cars look broken. Like Godzilla stepped on them.

As long as the rims aren't obscured by the fenders and the camber is okay I like it. The E30 looks nice, but maybe it's just the angle.

I don't hate the look of stanced cars, I just hate that they almost always have to ruin the handling to get it. Fine on a Corolla, but why the hell would you do it to the Ultimate Driving Machine?

It bugs me a little bit in the sense that BMW's engineers are an exception in the world of car design because they give a shit about how their cars handle. They work hard to make sure BMW's drive well, it's a huge part of their mission. Stancing a car feels just a tiny bit disrespectful to those people for me. On the other hand, i'm pretty OK with people doing whatever the hell makes them happy with their own stuff. Also, it's not like I dont get it. Those cars look cool. They bug me a bit, but they do look sweet, no denying it.

It's not about speed, just fun. And I just don't get it. Sure, E30s aren't that rare and so-on, but why bother starting with a car known for handling well if you're going to remove all of that? It's like starting with a muscle car when you're trying to build a hypermiler.

Kinja'd!!!0

Obviously. It's not stancing itself I'm asking about, but stancing a drivers' car. Why bother? Why not stance a car that looks good but won't handle, given that you'll be paying more for a car that handles well.

It's a bit like planning an engine swap, and then paying extra for the model with the most desirable engine. What's the point? You're going to swap it out anyway.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying people shouldn't do something just because I think it's silly. No, I'm quite happy as long as they each pay me a small fine, say $100. Tell the other stancers for me...
